Vanessa's Story:

I was born and raised in Southern California, and moved to Fort Myers, Florida when I was 27 (more to come about my move to Florida soon!).  I have always had a passion for helping people.  In 2004, being a single mom with a one-year old daughter, and after working my way up the retail ladder and being a store manager for a watch store in the mall, I decided I wanted to do more with my career.  I started full-time school to become a Medical Assistant¸ and graduated nine months later.  I was hired by a big HMO and worked the “float pool” where I experienced working as a MA for different doctors in different practices each week.  I have experience in oncology, urology, pediatrics, family health, rheumatology, and cardiology.

About six months into my MA position at the HMO, I was in a car accident and totaled my new car.  I didn’t have a car for about a month, and so I had to stop working (my job just took me off their schedule).  I was devastated that I lost the job that I loved so much.  Someone that I knew worked for an aviation company that was hiring office assistants, so I applied and got the job.  This company brokered airplane parts to airlines and other brokers all over the world.  This was all new to me, but I enjoyed the customer service end (as I love dealing with people and helping them), and I was intrigued by the business.  I worked for them for about a year, and during this time, started talking to someone in the same business but who lived 3,000 miles away in South Florida.  We started dating long distance, which was extremely difficult to do.  This young man did come visit me in CA, and kept talking about how he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me, and wanted me to move with my daughter to Florida with him.  I did break up with him about three times!  I just couldn’t see myself moving so far away from my family and friends, although getting married and having a family for my daughter was what I wanted most for her.

I eventually decided to move to Florida, and in January of 2008 my daughter and I moved to Fort Myers and started our new life with this incredible man, who is now my husband and the father of our three children; Isabella, age 14, Matthew age 8, and Nathan age 6.  I was so blessed to be able to be a stay at home mom for eight years¸ but decided it was time to go back to work.  In 2015 I was hired by a Real Estate company and was an office assistant for a little over a year.  This wasn’t fulfilling to me, and I longed to get back into the medical field, where my heart was.  I took a refresher Phlebotomy course at a local college, so I could be ready with my MA  and blood drawing skills.  Through a very good friend of mine, I was able to meet Wendy at YOLLO Wellness in the beginning of 2017, and was hired as her MA.  I am truly blessed to work for such an incredible family, and been given the opportunity to learn so much that I had never been exposed to before.  Working for YOLLO Wellness has completely changed my life, and I look forward to what the future holds for YOLLO Wellness
